1st Full Day in Athens

My first day in Athens has been amazing.  I have never experienced so much history in just a matter of hours.  I have always loved learning about Ancient Greece and it was great to be able to see many of the places in person.  The food is also fantastic and most of the people here are extremely friendly, even though they can spot that we are American before we even start to talk to them (I guess Oakley sunglasses are a dead giveaway).  From the start it has been a great day.  My team and I are going back in to town to watch the World Cup games with our team leader because his team (Mexico) is playing.  I will add as many pictures as I can before I have to be in the hotel lobby.  Don't worry, there will be plenty to follow as the days go on!

Finally Made it to Greece!

My 5 days at Fort Knox is finally over and I now have access to the blog to post.  5 days doesn't seem like a very long time, but when you are forced to stay in a 4 block by 4 block square, the days seemed to last forever.  Our days there went something like this:

0515-0600 - wake up/get ready
0600-0610 - first formation
0630-0730 - chow in the dfac
0730-1200 - briefings/medical/paperwork/computer work
1200-1300 - chow in the dfac
1300-1700 - briefings/medical/paperwork/computer work
1700-1800 - chow in the dfac
1800-2000 - sit around in the barracks
2000-2200 - lift/run (because it was finally cool enough to do so without becoming a heat causality)
2200-2300 - get ready for bed
2300-0515 - sleep

On Friday 27Jun14 my team made its way to the airport at 1300 and after changing planes in Detroit and Amsterdam we arrived in Athens.

Finally all packed up for my first out of country "deployment" with the Army.  I wouldn't call it all that much of a deployment considering I am going to Greece, but it is a deployment all the same.  Tomorrow I start the first leg of my adventure by boarding a plane headed to Louisville Kentucky.  From there I will meet my chauffeur (A person in ACU's holding a sign for cadets to get into a van) and I will head to Fort Knox.  We have 3-5 days of pre-deployment work to do and then the real adventure begins.  Stay tuned...

Getting ready to go to Greece.   My original destination was Serbia and I would have been leaving in 2 days.  Things changed and in one month I will be headed to Greece.  I am looking forward to this trip and am preparing myself for this life changing adventure.
